Now that you know our Top 10 tips for tailgating (Monday infographic), it seems appropriate to suggest the Top 10 vehicles for tailgating, based on our survey of various websites.
“In the starting lineup for any good tailgate party is the right vehicle,” says the infographic, which points in particular to one of the trucks on our list.
All vehicles on our list appeared on at least two other 2012-13 lists compiled by sources such as KBB.com, Cars.com, CarsDirect.com, Edmunds.com and Bankrate.com, as well as RoadandTrack.com, MotorTrend.com and FoxNews.com.
RoadLoans is a favored lender of KBB.com, Cars.com and other websites.
Following are the first five on our alphabetical list, mainly trucks and crossovers as you might expect, with comments to help you decide which might be best for you:
Ford F-150 – “You’ll definitely feel like you’re part of the team in America’s best-selling vehicle, which also offers a built in step and handle in the tailgate for easy access to the bed,” according to FoxNews.com.
Ford Flex – Ford’s boxy, eye-catching vehicle is available with a refrigerated compartment that works to keep beverages cool, writes Warren Clark, automotive content editor at Edmunds.com.
GMC Acadia – The Acadia was cited by CarsDirect for its ability to haul eight passengers, one more than competitive vehicles in its class.
Honda Ridgeline – “With the tailgate extended, the bed is big enough to provide comfortable seating,” writes Edmunds. “Best of all, there’s an in-floor storage locker that you can use to haul” – well, all those tailgating needs.
Kia Soul – “Though you may be the butt of a few hamster jokes, you’ll have plenty of room in the back for a small cooler and grille,” writes Armaan Almeida of CarsDirect.
