We’re spoilt for choice when it comes to high-quality cars these days, and the 2019-model year is no exception.
However, experts at automotive research site Edmunds believe they have picked out the choicest of the them all. From over 300 vehicles tested on road and track, here are the seven winners of their inaugural Editors’ Choice Awards.
Sedan – 2019 Honda Accord
Among sedans, the Accord is deemed a cut above. On the inside you’ll enjoy a refined interior, plenty of technology and generous amounts of space. While SUVs are now more popular, cars actually offer a better driving experience, says Edmunds, and take up less space in the garage, too.
Luxury sedan – 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class
You can get style, technology and features at a surprisingly affordable price with the A-Class, and the editors believe these elements rival luxury cars costing twice as much. Starting from $32,500, this is an entry-level luxury car of some note.
EV – 2019 Hyundai Kona Electric
To win, the Kona had to combine competitive pricing, generous range plus comfort, practicality and performance that stand up to gas-powered alternatives. It comes in at under $38,000 before tax credits and incentives, has a 258-mile range, and was commended for its responsive motor and handling, long list of standard features and good warranty.
SUV – 2019 Honda CR-V
In a highly competitive segment, the CR-V had to be something special and it “sets the benchmark” as a spacious, convenient and economical all-rounder. Plenty of room for passengers and cargo, advanced safety features and best-in-class economy all impressed the judges.
Luxury SUV – 2019 Lincoln Navigator
There’s a lot to be impressed with here, and not just because the Navigator is so big. It’s powerful, capable, makes a statement and has standout American styling, says Edmunds. Venturing inside, it has amazing seats (heated, ventilated, massaging), its sound system is a “masterpiece” and there’s room for eight adults.
Sports car – 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata
The choicest sports car must be fun and this nailed it. Following a recent refresh, the Miata’s 2-liter engine and the retractable hardtop roof on the RF model were among the areas to receive praise. It also starts from just over $26,000.
Truck – 2019 Ram 1500
A strong performer inside and out, the Ram 1500 scored well for its attractive, well-equipped interior as well as its towing abilities, such as the zoomable rearview camera and flip-up tow mirrors. Clever use of technology and “great on-road manners” also made an impact.
